Filazoo x MakerWorld: Our 2026 Community Design Contest Explained

Filazoo

We're running a community design initiative this fall built around one of the most useful trends in modding right now: Gridfinity. If you design functional add-ons and accessories, we want to see them — and we're putting real filament prizes behind it.

Here's the theme, how to enter, and what you can win.

The Theme: Functional Gridfinity Add-Ons

This round is focused specifically on Gridfinity accessories and add-ons — bins, inserts, labels, tool holders, dividers, anything that extends the Gridfinity system in a genuinely useful way. We picked this theme because it's concrete, achievable in a weekend, and produces designs other makers can actually print and use, not just look at.

How Submissions Work

  1. Design and upload your model to MakerWorld, tagged with #FilazooGridfinity2026 so it's part of the collection.
  2. Submit your model's link through the simple entry form linked in our Instagram bio.
  3. We'll confirm your entry and let you know it's in the running once submitted.

You can search MakerWorld for #FilazooGridfinity2026 directly to see what other makers are submitting and get a sense of what's already been done.

Prizes

Place Prize

Timeline

  • Submissions open now — start designing and uploading whenever you're ready.
  • Submissions close end of October 2026.
  • Winners announced mid-November 2026 on our blog and Instagram.

Why We're Doing This

We want more real Filazoo prints out in the world, made by people who are genuinely good at design, not just marketing copy about how good our filament is. Gridfinity has turned into one of the more active corners of the maker community, and it felt like a natural fit — practical, widely used, and easy for anyone to jump into regardless of experience level. This is a Filazoo-hosted initiative that we're promoting on MakerWorld and through our own channels; it's our way of putting material behind the community rather than just talking about supporting it.

Judging

Entries are judged on the same basics we look for in any design challenge: does the add-on solve a real organizational or functional problem, is it well executed (fit, tolerances, print quality shown in your photos), and does it show some original thinking rather than a near-duplicate of an existing design. Print quality photos matter here — show us your actual printed result, not just a render.

Who Should Enter

This one's aimed at makers who already design their own parts, whether that's your day job or a weekend habit — CAD experience helps, but Gridfinity's modular base system means a lot of strong entries come from fairly simple parametric designs done well rather than anything overly complex. If you've never designed a Gridfinity piece before but know your way around a CAD tool, this is a reasonable first project to try, since the base grid system does a lot of the hard geometry work for you already.

What to Print With

Gridfinity pieces get a lot of handling — drawers opening and closing, bins being pulled in and out — so material choice matters more than it might for a display piece. Our carbon and glass fiber filament comparison is worth a look if you're designing something that needs extra rigidity, and our broader engineering materials lineup covers everything from standard PLA+ up through reinforced composites if your design calls for more durability than a basic print.

Start designing, upload to MakerWorld with #FilazooGridfinity2026, and submit your link before end of October 2026. We can't wait to see what the community builds.
