PLA+ Silk is a PLA-based filament that prints a smooth, glossy surface with a reflective, metallic-style sheen. It's built for decorative models where appearance is the priority. Silk PLA explained covers why it prints shiny and how to get the most from it.
No. "Silk" describes the smooth, lustrous appearance rather than the ingredients, and metallic-looking shades like Silver, Bronze, Copper, and Gold get their look from pigments, not metal powder. That also means they print like normal PLA — no hardened nozzle needed. Silk PLA explained covers how the effect works.
Both are silk-finish PLA; the "+" refers to the modified base formulation. In practice, treat PLA+ Silk as a decorative filament rather than a functional one — if a part needs real toughness, use our standard PLA+ instead. Yes. Print speed, layer direction, cooling, model orientation, and how light reaches each face all change the apparent shine — it's normal for one side to look glossier. Keeping outer-wall speed consistent gives the most uniform finish. Silk PLA explained covers why.
They can be. A reflective surface catches layer direction and small variations that a matte finish would hide. A suitable layer height, consistent outer-wall speed, and careful orientation improve it — as does a proper calibration print before the real job.

Treat them as equivalent for planning purposes — both are decorative silk filaments, and neither is intended for loaded parts. Real-world strength depends as much on print orientation, wall thickness, infill, temperature, and layer adhesion as on the filament. If strength is the deciding factor, use our standard PLA+ rather than a silk grade.
You can, but sanding dulls or removes the silk sheen. The filament already gives a finished decorative surface, so sanding and painting are usually only worth it for a deliberately customized effect.
