Does ASA require an enclosure?

Yes, strongly recommended — it reduces warping and improves interlayer bonding. ASA shrinks significantly as it cools, which is exactly the situation warping 101 describes.

Is ASA waterproof?

The raw material resists moisture, but a printed object isn't automatically watertight. Wall thickness, layer bonding, geometry, and sealing decide that. Strong layer bonding is the key variable — see why parts split along layer lines for how to get it right.

Can ASA be painted?

Yes. Sand and apply a compatible primer for good paint adhesion and surface quality. ASA's UV stability makes it a strong base for painted outdoor and garden prints and for cosplay armor and props.
