What does carbon fiber add to ABS?
Carbon fiber adds stiffness and dimensional stability, and gives a matte surface that hides layer lines well. What it doesn't add is toughness — filled filaments trade some flexibility for rigidity. Does ABS-CF require an enclosure?
Yes, strongly recommended — an enclosure keeps shrinkage controlled and interlayer bonding reliable. Weak bonds show up as parts that split along a layer line, which layer adhesion troubleshooting covers in detail.
Can I use a brass nozzle with ABS-CF?
No. Carbon fiber is abrasive and will chew through a brass nozzle quickly. Use hardened steel or another wear-resistant nozzle. Brass vs. hardened steel explains how fast the wear happens and what it costs you in print quality.
Is ABS-CF suitable for impact-loaded parts?
It's very stiff, but fiber reinforcement reduces flexibility — and a stiff part absorbs less energy before it cracks.
